Nominated for the 2007 Philly Hip-Hop Awards Best Poet and for the 2007 Alternative Soul Awards in Best Poet category and Best Spoken Word CD for "Mrs. Betty's Son: The Final Call." I have been blessed many times over since beginning my venture into word art, doing venues and shows from New York to New Jersey, Philly, Delaware to Maryland/D.C. area, meeting and making friends and family out of people I have come in contact with. But I felt I was becoming drained from being inside the open-mics, reciting words of empowerment and social commentary and not being able to get to the people that need to hear it the most. Yet again, God opened more doors for me, inspired me to do community outreach with my word art, giving me access to schools, church events, youth shelters, prisons and youth summits where 90% of the time I was able to give the children something to feel and think about.... She has been nominated for Community Oriented Poet in the National Underground Spoken Word Awards (NUSPA) (2011), for Best Poet/Spoken Word Artist in the DMV (2011), and Poet of the Year in the Baltimore, MD (2010). Shelly has featured as a spoken word artist in two stage plays, co-hosted/featured at Busboys and Poets, performed at George Washington University, University of MD Eastern Shore and a host of other venues around the country. Tai Allen is a poet, singer, musician, designer and multi-talented artist. His influences range from Bob Marley and Aretha Franklin to Norman Connor and Gil Scot-Heron to the Beatles and Post-Modernism. His writing and essays have appeared in Bomb Magazine,Uptown Magazine Online, The NYC Underground and the Daily Challenge and his chapbook, Easy Readin. He has been featured on BET/CentricTV, Okayplayer, SoulTracks and in Nu-Soul Magazine. Tai is the National Poetry Awards 2010 Winner for best album for LP For Easy Readin, the companion to his chapboo, and was a nominee for best single.
