Nov 17 Warm Wednesdays: Featuring NovaKane
Kane “Novakane” Smego is the Artistic Director of the Sacrificial Poets youth organization. He won the 2008 Lake Eden Arts Festival (LEAF) poetry slam and finished 14th out of 78 poets in the world at the 2008 Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS). The Sacrificial Poets just recently became the forstated. Chapel Hill/ Durham's International Youth Slam Poetry Team was simply known before as the Chapel Hill Slam Team. Recently a Person who was a member of the 2006 team was murdered; Ira Yarmolenko. In her honor the team was renamed the Sacrificial Poets. She is greatly missed and we strive daily to embody the ideals that she believed in. Among these are that; voice is a gift that should be shared, words are weapons that can be used to break or build and finally, a smile can change the world. The Sacrificial Poets recently returned from the International youth competition in Washington D.C. placing top 15. We have also performed at several Obama Rallys recently. We do believe in activism through artistry and believe that poetry is a powerful tool in awakening a "sleep walking" society.Nov 10 Warm Wednesdays: Featuring Tai Allen
