July 20 Warm Wednesdays: Featuring Rebecca Dupas

Rebecca Dupas, a native of Louisiana, was influenced by the writings of her mother and sister who shared their work with the young poet. Little did they know, their words would inspire this shy, soft-spoken young girl to begin a journey that would take her from scribbled lyrics on napkins and notebooks to performing and hosting at one of the Nation’s largest and longest running open-mic poetry venues. Although Rebecca is still that reserved, soft-spoken young lady, her poetry is heard “loud and clear” by audiences who have learned to appreciate her subtle, yet powerful messages. Whether it is hosting, performing, or producing, Rebecca Dupas continues to spread a powerful message. Warm Wednesdays is proud to feature one of Baltimore’s most established and talented female spoken word artists: REBECCA DUPAS. A tasteful mix of social conciseness, sensuality, wit and humor, Rebecca is a brilliant wordsmith and captivating performer.

JULY 13 Warm Wednesdays: Shyster

Nominated for the 2007 Philly Hip-Hop Awards Best Poet and for the 2007 Alternative Soul Awards in Best Poet category and Best Spoken Word CD for "Mrs. Betty's Son: The Final Call." I have been blessed many times over since beginning my venture into word art, doing venues and shows from New York to New Jersey, Philly, Delaware to Maryland/D.C. area, meeting and making friends and family out of people I have come in contact with. But I felt I was becoming drained from being inside the open-mics, reciting words of empowerment and social commentary and not being able to get to the people that need to hear it the most. Yet again, God opened more doors for me, inspired me to do community outreach with my word art, giving me access to schools, church events, youth shelters, prisons and youth summits where 90% of the time I was able to give the children something to feel and think about.... Shyster aka Mrs. Betty's Son (after his mother died in 2004 he promised her he would use her name on everything he recorded to keep her memory alive) Co-hosts, Jus Words, every Thursday 9pm-1am at Dowlings Palace, 1310 N. Broad Street in Philly, PA. He is also a member of Poetry-In-Motion and The Master Griot Project[tm].
