April 13 Warm Wednesdays: Marc Marcel!
Marc Marcel, one of the world's most prolific and recognized Spoken Word Artist of our generation, born and raised in Baltimore MD, and diagnosed with Dyslexia at the age of 10, has far exceeded the boundaries brought on by his early disability. Not only does he travel the world performing Spoken Word, but he is also a published Novelist, Producer and Public Speaker. Marc, a Novelist at heart, started writing poetry in 2000, Atlanta GA, several months after completing the first draft of his first published novel, ‘Saint Thomas,’ in efforts to place a poem at the end of the book that would give the same overall message. Little did he know at the time that he would turn poetry on the Page, into one of the rawest art forms witnessed on Stage. After publishing his first novel, he then published his first book of poetry, ‘Unchained,’ and since has released 15 Spoken Word CDs. Performing in over 150 American Cities and 4 Countries, he has also showcased, performed and/or held workshops for over 50 Universities, with Harvard, Yale, Morehouse and the University of Florida just a few to name. Having made 5 National Television appearances, including Lyrics Café, No Reservations, and a skit for The Jimmy Kimmel Show, he has also graced the stages of many legendary venues, the Smithsonian in Washington DC for the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Peace Ball for President Obama, as well as performing for Scion Night at Knots Scary Farm, in front of 12,000 people. Regularly featured in magazines, while making appearances on a number of countless radio stations across the country whether as a guest or having his work played on the air, he still finds time to stay current with his art. Through his performances he captures the emotions and feelings of several issues including politics, love, spirituality, self-revelation and the everyday struggles of life. Candid, thought-provoking, revealing, clever and honest are just a few descriptions of Marc’s work. Marc works just as hard off of the stage as he does on it. Throughout his career, he has written thousands of unreleased poems, several unreleased novels and has produced hundreds of underground tracks. Marcel lives as if his next second is the most important moment he has, and his devotion to his Art is reflected in his great body of work. He is Spoken Word, at its rawest, highest level of performance! ------- Warm Wednesdays The Largest, Longest Running Open Mic Poetry Venue in the Nation! Jan 19 Warm Wednesdays: LOVE the poet B-day Celebration!
LOVE began her journey artistically by testing the waters of the underground performance arts community in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. She started out as one of many poets who sign ‘open mic’ lists at spoken word poetry events in order to gain a few minutes of time onstage, and quickly distinguished herself as a talent to be reckoned with. She became a recognizable figure on the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) performance arts scene and sought after performer. LOVE began her life onstage as a featured performer at the same open mic events she once frequented as a hopeful poet looking for an audience to share her work with. She became a much beloved fixture at the area’s premier spoken word events, and gained popularity with area media, with appearances on WERQ 92.3 (92Q) “The Love Zone” with LaDawn Black, WEAA-FM 88.9, WYPR-FM 88.1 (Baltimore’s National Public Radio station) and WHUR 96.3-FM. Her tremendous, transcendent energy and stage presence soon led her to perform at some of the most noted venues in the area like The Theater Project and Center Stage, performing with live bands, dancers, vocalists, and other noted area performance poets and hip hop artists. LOVE also hosts numerous monthly and quarterly events of her own, has received many awards and accolades from the performance arts community and media like Baltimore’s City Paper, has recorded three full-length CDs: “LOVE’s Journey: It Begins”, “LOVE’s Journey: The Middle Passage”, and “The Chrysalis: The Rebirth of Michelle Antoinette” and one DVD, “LOVE’s Journey… LIVE!”. LOVE is also becoming equally popular and prominent on the national performance arts scene, the literary scene, and in the field of creative writing/education. She has appeared on CNN as a speaker at the Jena 6 rally in Washington, D.C., has performed at college campuses nationwide and is also a member of The Punany Poets, a nationally touring erotic poetry performance troupe that has been featured on HBO’s late night series Real Sex. LOVE is also an active member of the Maryland Speaker’s Bureau, the founder of justlovepoetryink, LLC which facilitates her “Live Lyrics” creative writing workshops across the state of Maryland, and an active member of Poetry for the People Baltimore. LOVE continues to center her spoken word career on social enlightenment, community outreach, and entertainment. She explains it this way: “…you struggle with the idea of ‘do you want to be famous’, ‘do you want to be rich’…I want the world to hear my work…I want to touch as many people as I can…and if that results in fame and money, then good…but I want people to enjoy my work and hear me and know that this is what I do and that I don’t just do it for me.” www.lovethepoet.com www.facebook.com/lovethepoetLIVE Warm Wednesdays The Largest, Longest Running Open Mic Poetry Venue in the Nation!
