Warm Wednesdays was established over 10 years ago by Walter Maxfield Jones who recognized the immense talent in Baltimore City. Warm Wednesdays has showcased both seasoned professionals and open-mic "virgins" by providing a nurturing atmosphere for some of Baltimore's best.
The venue began with only 6 audience members. It has grown to become the largest and longest running weekly open-mic venue in Baltimore. Its original hosts, Walter Maxfield Jones and The Bassman worked to create a welcoming atmosphere that would afford local and visiting artists the opportunity to "speak." Many of Baltimore's greats have had defining moments on the Warm Wednesdays' stage.
We have been fortunate to have featured many established artists such as Talaam Acey, Lamar Hill, Queen Sheeba, Archie the Messenger, Raheem DeVaughn, Bilal Salaam, and The 5thL. In Spring 2005, The Bassman so graciously "passed the mic" to a member of the Warm Wednesdays family, Rebecca Dupas who after 3 years went on to start her own venue in 2008.
Today, Warm Wednesdays is the longest running open-mic poetry venue in the country. Hosted by Walter Maxfield Jones, it continues to provide a proving ground and a haven for established and up-and-coming artists. Performers such as Ainsley Burrows, Yahzarah, Ndambi, LOVE the poet, E the poet-emcee, Tasha Jones, Droopy the Broke Baller, Lyrical the Lyricist and so many more walk thru the doors of the 5 Seasons.
